Gift8Lives at Baker!
Hello everyone, and welcome to this month's blog post. This month was very important, because I talked to two middle school health classes(Baker Middle School, Troy, MI) about organ donation! It was a great experience, and I'm excited to share it with you all. Let's get started!
Lesson Plan
Index Card Activity Pt. 1
So to start of the lesson, I had each student write down something they already knew about organ donation on an index card. I made sure they left the other side blank for the 2nd part of this activity.
Presentation
This was the main part of the lesson, and I basically went over how I started this project, the number of people waiting for an organ, why it's a problem, and how we can fix it.
Kahoot
So the point of the Kahoot was to be a fun review game for the presentation. All the students at Baker have iPads, and I wanted to incorporate that technology into my lesson plans. Also, there were rewards for the top three winners, so that added an incentive for everyone to work towards.
Index Card Activity Pt. 2
Now, I had the students write what they learned about organ donation on the other side of the index card. I collected these, and now I can see what people thought they knew and what they learned from my lesson. It provided me with many insights!
I've attached some images from my presentation below.
That's it for this month! Thank you all for reading, and I'll see you next month! And a huge thank-you to Mr. Hosbach, Dr. Melton, and Ms. Costello for helping me with the presentation!
