Gift8Lives in 2019, and the GOLM Campus Challenge!

Hello everyone, and welcome to January's blog post! January has been a very busy month with midterm exams, but with the past few snow days we've gotten, it has definitely been more relaxing. We hope you're all doing well in this very cold weather, and let's get started!

Gift8Lives @ THS in 2019

Gift8Lives accomplished a lot in 2018, and we're very excited to do some amazing things in 2019! Starting off in early February, we'll be having a meeting discussing some volunteering opportunities for our members(like speaking to Driver's Ed classes). Soon after that, we'll be bringing in a pediatric nephrologist to speak to our members about the effects of organ donation and transplantation on the younger population.

Those are the specifics, but our long-term goals for 2019 are to set up multiple sessions with Driver's Ed for Gift8Lives to speak at, and get some of our members to become certified Gift of Life Michigan volunteers!

Gift of Life Michigan: Campus Challenge 2019

Every year, the Campus Challenge provides an opportunity to give school rivalries and competitive spirit a new purpose by saving and healing lives. The Campus Challenge program is simple, easy and free. In the past 14 years, college students across the state have inspired more than 40,000 people to join the Michigan Organ Donor Registry.

During the five-week Gift of Life Michigan Campus Challenge, colleges and universities compete to see which school can sign up the most people to donate life. Students, faculty and staff participate in the Campus Challenge through campus events, social media posts, newsletter articles, and at donor registry sign-up stations in student unions and athletic events. Digital and physical resources are provided to each participating school, along with a supply of giveaway items for tabling events.

Each school receives a unique link to the donor registry, and your school receives a point every time someone uses that link to sign up as an organ donor. Scores are shown in real time on Gift of Life Michigan’s website. At the end of the Campus Challenge, trophies will be awarded to the top three schools -- the school that recruits the most new donors, the school that signs up the most new donors compared to its student population, and the school that earns the most activity points.

We'd encourage anyone attending a university to sign up for this challenge and compete!

That's it for this month! Thank you all for reading, and see you next time.
