The HOPE Act, and the $1 Million raised for the NJ 5K Celebration of Life!

Hello everyone,

I hope you're doing well! This month's blog post is filled with some great news from both Gift of Life Michigan and the NJ Sharing Network. Let's get right into it.

The HOPE Act

"The HIV Organ Policy Equity (HOPE) Act is one step closer to becoming law in Michigan, after the bill was unanimously referred out of the Senate Health Committee on Thursday. The legislation will now head to the full Senate for a vote. It will allow organs from potential donors with HIV to be transplanted into HIV-positive patients."

This is absolutely great news, as it will facilitate the transplantation of many more organs within Michigan. The HOPE Act was actually enacted nationwide in 2015, but it was up to the states to decide whether to implement it or not. However, State Rep. Felicia Brabec introduced it into the House, and ti was approved by the House in July! Now it heads to the Senate main floor, where we hope it gets passed. This could be a game-changer for the number of transplantations performed per year, so it's something I'm very excited about!

$1 Million Raised for the NJ Sharing Network!

In other news, $1 million was recently raised for the NJ Sharing Network's 5K! This is absolutely amazing–and while I wasn't able to volunteer for this year's run, I'm more than excited to participate in other upcoming events throughout the next few months.

That's it for this month! Thank you all for reading, and I'll see you next time.
