Assorted Organ Donation News!

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well! Welcome back to another blog post. Let's get right into it.

Maryland increasing tax credit for living organ donors to $10,000

So this was a great story I read the other day: Maryland state lawmakers are considering legislation designed to encourage more people to become organ donors.

The bill would increase a tax credit from $7,500 to $10,000 for living donors to help defer costs during and after surgery.

Health experts said more than 3,100 Maryland residents are on the transplant waiting list.

"Let me tell you why the bill is necessary: There are about 22 deaths a day, just in Maryland, because individuals were unable to obtain organs for a donation. While the demand is increasing, donors are decreasing," said Delegate Karen Lewis Young.

It gives them an incentive. You are saving somebody's life, and the fact that there are certain financial responsibilities that come with that," Harris said."

This is a great story, especially because Kyle (who is featured in this story) was actually at my volunteer training back in 2016! So to see him where he is now is truly amazing. Here's the link below:

That's it for this month! Thank you so much for reading, and I'll see you next time.
